The Playlist

It's raining today in my neck of the woods. And being the moody bitch that I am it doesn't take much for me to light my candles, put on some sad music and sit down to write. And in the process I got to thinking about playlists. I'm sure if you are music geek like me you have a playlist for every occasions and mood.

This goes deep for me because before I decided to try my hand at fiction writing I fancied myself a songwriter. I still am actually. My fiction writing inspires me to write music and vice versa. For me the idea of writing a soundtrack to go with my stories seems like a perfect fit, so stay tuned for Her Protector The Soundtrack! But what do I listen to when I'm in the middle of a writing session? A whole bunch of different stuff quite frankly.

My musical tastes are wide and varied and I don't think I fit into any category as a lover of music because I judge music only by how it makes me feel. It crosses genres all day long. With that said, I do love me some pop music in all it's simplistic complexities. From disco to punk, to country-pop. Give me a catchy melody and a striking lyric and I'm in.

So on this rainy day let me give you a small snapshot of what is in my queue curated by artists. (I've listed a few of my top favorite tracks but it's not by any means a complete list. Ain't nobody got time for that!):

-Warning Sign

Study Music Alpha Waves: Relaxing Studying Music, Brain Power, Focus Concentration Music

Like I said this is just snapshot. I have hours of music and multiple playlists. But one thing I want to share is that when I am really in the zone and writing, the brain wave music is what I listen to the most. It doesn't have lyrics or a beat. It's white noise for me and I find it very easy to concentrate to. The other songs on my list get me in a mood, set a vibe if you will. But the soft background noise that doesn't cause a distraction is perfect when I am pushing against a deadline or word count goal. It's all about balance.

So, now it's your turn. Do you have a soundtrack that you queue up when you are writing? Or do you prefer the sound of silence? Please share!

Did I say too much? I hope to hear from you soon!
