***This chapter is written in the hero's voice. He is talking to his brother who is also his business partner***
“Well, well, well, look what the cat dragged in.” My brother lazed on my couch apparently still dressed in a suit that he had worn the previous night. But I had no room to judge since I was was also still in the same clothes from yesterday.
“I don’t have a cat.” I quipped, as I sat down in a chair and watched him from across my coffee table.
“You know what I mean. So, how’d it go? Did you tap that ass or what?”
My back stiffened, “Don’t make me put you in a coma Caden, Mom wouldn’t like it.”
“I’ll take that as a no.” He snorted.
I sighed in exasperation, “Can you be serious for 5 seconds? I need to get my shit together and get over to the hotel so I can touch base with the advance team and hotel security.”
“I’m already on it. Derek and Ivan will meet you at the Plaza in an hour. And hotel security is on standby to meet with you anytime.” My brother might look hungover and thoroughly debauched, but he was as sharp as ever.
“Seriously though, what did happen?” He said as he sat up.
I ran a hand through my hair and tried not to picture Haley in the grip of the panic attack she'd suffered in my arms last night. “Not what you think. She had a bad night so I hung around to make sure she got some rest.”
“Damn, when’s the last time you spent the night with a chick?” Surprise laced his voice.
“I didn’t ‘spend the night’. I went there to go over the security plan and things went a little sideways. That’s it. Now stop fucking with me and get going so you can meet me at the hotel later.”
A slow smile began to spread across his face, “You don’t need my help getting the girl.”
“I never did. You seemed like you needed something to do and I felt sorry for you.”
He stood up and grabbed his tie off of the table. “Alright, alright. I'll see you at the hotel in a couple of hours. I can’t wait to meet your princess.”
“Your key…” I called out as he pulled the door closed behind him. Damn. I was never getting that key back.
